Welcome

Testimonials:
"My daughter and I enjoyed the (Fashion and Image) workshop very much.."

"As far as expectations, I think they were mostly met. The surprise bonus was the time spent up front on how people form impressions quickly and how we present ourselves can positively or negatively determine the outcome of that. Having the girls hear it from a speaker who is NOT their mother is really valuable, because this information is delicate and difficult to convey without being perceived as critical.

"On Sunday, we brought our daughter to overnight camp. On the way, we stopped for lunch and a small amount of tomato sauce dropped on my daughter's shirt and shorts. As we exited the food shop, she showed me the spots and said, "well this won't make a very good first impression." With that we stopped at a convenience store, bought a quick stain removing stick, and she worked out the spots in the car. This tells me that she internalized the first impression message and acted on it. Bravo – it's so nice see that she is conscientious. I really admire her.

"Thanks again." S. P., Groton

"Fabulous! Simply Fabulous! My daughter absolutely loved A Week of Self Discovery! I love that she loved it, and although she was not so forthcoming on what she learned every day (that's just a teenage thing) I also loved what she learned! The information that I did hear about seemed to be exactly what I would say to my daughter in any given situation – all of the speakers were right on track."

Message form our Founder:
Trying to decide if A Week of Self Discovery is for your girl?
Kathleen Veth I'm Kathleen Veth. Thanks for your interest in Self Discovery Enterprises.

Our program started in 2005 as a single, week-long empowerment experience for girls entering grades seven, eight and nine. We called it u, ur friendz, ur lyfe =) A Week of Self Discovery and used text speak and bright colors to entice the teens.

I brought together a team of successful female role models who, in the spirit of community outreach and service, volunteered to help me create this unique opportunity to educate future generations on how to become successful women. In fact, today that's our mission!

The results from our very first week were so positive, we knew we had to present it again, at least more time. Sure enough, it worked again. In fact, it was magical.

Over the years, we've refined and enhanced the program so that it's even better than we first imagined.

We're confident that the girls all learn something during the week, but our evaluation forms consistently show that they have tons of fun as well.

We recognize that it's a monumental decision to entrust your daughter to strangers. We promise to treat her as if she were our own – and by the end of the week, we feel she is!

Please call me if you have any questions or concerns. I love to talk about our programs. I'd also like to share some news about our not-quite-ready-to-announce retreat for adult women – A Weekend of Self Discovery!

Metamorphosis
Once upon a time, a woman discovered a butterfly cocoon just outside her back door. She noticed a small opening had already appeared. The woman watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that tiny hole. When it seemed as if the butterfly had gotten as far as it could, the woman snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon with kitchen scissors. The butterfly then emerged easily – but it's small body was swollen, it's wings curled tightly. The woman continued to watch. She expected that, at any moment, the butterfly's wings would open to support it's body. Tragically, the butterfly instead spent the rest of its life crawling. It's shriveled wings never unfurled. The butterfly was unable to fly. What the woman, in her kindness and haste, did not understand is that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to make it through the tiny opening, forced fluid from the body of the butterfly into it's wings. Only then would the butterfly truly be ready for flight. Sometimes struggles are necessary. Conquering obstacles make believers strong – and able to soar.
